Asakusa in one easy morning, from the lantern gate to the river

Asakusa works well as a single morning. You can see Kaminarimon and Nakamise, then sit down by the river. No need to squeeze in a second neighbourhood before lunch.

How the walk flows

  • Kaminarimon: Your starting point. Stand to one side of the walkway for photos.
  • Nakamise: Looking at Senso-ji's buildings is up to you. Going straight on to the river is fine too.
  • Sumida: End with a rest by the water. Sort out meals and prayer access separately.

Save these three stops

With breaks, expect about 2–3 hours. Each map link opens walking directions, but check the real route and current access on the day.

  1. Kaminarimon: Begin under the big lantern. Step to the side for photos so the crowd can keep moving.
  2. Nakamise: The shopping street runs up to Senso-ji. You can choose whether to look at the temple buildings. Follow the signs and be respectful of worshippers.
  3. Sumida Park: Walk on to the river and take a rest. Would you rather skip the temple area? Come here directly from Kaminarimon.

Note your station for the way back

According to GO TOKYO, the Ginza, Asakusa and Tobu lines all serve Asakusa. So a pin that just says "Asakusa" is not enough. Write down the operator and the exit you actually used.

Decide on lunch before you set off

Snack stalls along the route do not guarantee halal food. Ask your chosen shop about ingredients, cooking alcohol and how the food is prepared. For prayer, work from local times and access you have confirmed. The park is not a verified prayer facility.
