Two decisions make a Nara day much easier: your arrival station and your meal plan. Once those are sorted, spend a few relaxed hours in the park and leave the rest of the day open.
Kintetsu-Nara and JR Nara are not the same station
Arriving at Kintetsu-Nara
From here the park is only a short walk to the east. If a shorter walk matters to your group, compare the Kintetsu route from your hotel. Save this station's pin so you can find it again on the way back.
Arriving at JR Nara
Visit Nara puts the walk to the park area along Sanjo-dori at about 20 minutes. You could also take a bus. Decide based on your starting point, not just on which station name sounds right.

Walking from Kintetsu-Nara
The route below begins at Kintetsu. Coming by JR? Just change the start point in Maps. How long the walk takes depends on the part of the park you head for.
- Kintetsu-Nara Station: Pin the station for your return, then set off towards the park.
- Nara Park: Take your time with the deer and rest when you need to. Seeing Todaiji's architecture is optional; the park is a full visit by itself.

The deer may bite or push
Remember they are wild. Don't hug them, chase them or tease them with food. Only feed them shika senbei, the crackers sold for deer. Keep food bags closed and paper tucked away, and watch children closely. Simply watching, without feeding, is perfectly fine.
Plan your exit from the park
Work your timing around lunch and local prayer times. We have not verified any specific restaurant or prayer room for this article. Check directly with the operator before you go. If meal options are still unclear, pack suitable halal food and eat it away from the deer.
